Sean Maguire: I Choose Sean

2016.12.13 - North Vancouver

I really do feel like Sean Maguire got the short end of the stick on Once Upon A Time. I watched the show since it was local to where I am but I certainly wasn't a huge fan of most of the stories.  I really grew to love the character of Robin Hood both from the show on Netflix and TV but also watching the production of the show.  Sean always seemed like he was having a good time on set.  Whenever I would go down to Steveston to watch them film he seemed to be laughing, cracking up the other actors and enjoying his time with the cast and crew.  People seemed to gravitate towards him.

The first time I met him on set I wasn't even sure who he was, I was just before his episodes in the show since I only picked the show up when I moved to Steveston in 2014. They had set up the cast tent right in front of me while I was having dinner and someone else had stopped him on his way back from getting coffee for himself and another cast member.  I jumped in because he was cute and had a nice accent and seemed like a nice guy.  I remember how kind he was that day even now.  And that is still one of my favourite photos, I couldn't believe how grateful I was that he stopped that day and that I asked once I got more involved in the show.

Supernatural Season 12 - Here We Go Again

2016-08-08 - Burnaby/New Westminster, BC

New season of Supernatural, new cast, and a LOT of new crew, unfortunately.  I went to a set for Episode 1 for the pick up of where they left off with Dean reuniting with 'Mom' (Samantha Smith who will be herein called 'Mom' in order to avoid 'Sam' confusion).  My bucket list for this season has been set to meet Mom and also get Jared to sign a photo for me (I kind of fell into personalized photos from Jensen and Misha so now I need to complete the set).  I heard that they were filming at the Executive Inn in Burnaby in the morning so I packed up my bag and headed out.  I waited until later into the morning as I didn't want to get stuck in the terrible, TERRIBLE morning commute though Richmond, New Westminster AND Burnaby so I didn't arrive at set until a little after 11.  I parked in the next complex and walked down to see but found quickly that it looked like they weren't doing anything outside.  I walked up to the PA that was standing across the driveway from where the trucks and the hotel were and asked if it was all interiors.  He confirmed that they had done exteriors earlier but now have moved inside.  Damn traffic. Okay, no worries.  I mentioned that I was pretty sure that I'd passed by their next location on my way there.   I didn't tell him where it was and he didn't volunteer anything other than that they had three locations and that they had another 2 hours or so there.

SPN 12x01 - Interesting...

Week of July 12th, 2016 - Various Vancouver Locations

1st day of shooting all hands expected that they would be in studio just like all last days seem to be.  However, when I struck out of Steveston that morning to go to Shut Eye on the best lead I had on Jeffrey Donovan since he came to Vancouver, I passed a set of signs I hadn’t seen before “JAFTS”.  They were at No. 2 road and Steveston Highway.  I pulled a u-turn and followed them down all the way to almost the water before I saw a familiar sight, the Green Machine, SPN’s craft service truck that only works on them as far as I’ve ever known.  There was a relatively small circus set up with some trailers and more signs.  I stopped and took a photo of the sign having figured out on the very first day what SPN’s signs were going to be for the year (and I was quite proud of myself, actually haha).  I drove out to the water to see if I could spot the set and saw one of the boys’ trailers away from the circus right on a gravel lot on the water.  They’re distinctive because they’re more like 5th wheels than star trailers and that’s unique even for Vancouver. I kept driving and ended up outside London Heritage Farm.  I wanted to stick around but I had bigger fish to fry so I took off for Shut Eye.

Jeffrey Donovan - Harder Than Finding A Spy

July 12th, 2016 - 37th and Heather (Old RCMP Grounds), Vancouver

Oh Jeffrey Donovan.  Lead in one of my top shows of all time, Burn Notice.  I loved the character of Michael Westen, the burned spy with a vendetta to redeem himself in the eyes of his country. The show only got better with the addition of Coby Bell in the later seasons, adding to the already strong cast of Bruce Campbell as 'the buddy', Sam Axe and Gabrielle Anwar as the '(not quite) ex girlfriend' as well as Sharon Gless as Michael's mother.  Great cast, hilarious, smart writing, great guest cast/acting the whole thing.  The only complaint I ever had about that show was continuity within scenes.  Often the angle changes would result in inconsistencies over the shoulder but I could overlook it for the excellent everything else.

Supernatural Finale: More Than We Bargained For

2016.04.12 – Tipperary Park, New Westminister

The end is near and finales are always fascinating so I headed out immediately after work to the park where I’d heard the day before that Supernatural was filming. People had reported signs there as early as last Friday so we figured it was something big.  Soon, I heard that there was a graveyard set up.  I was pretty stoked that we might get to see a salt and burn this night, I haven’t seen one of those yet in my Supernatural excursions.

Jim Beaver: Airport Part Deux

January 17th, 2016

Damn those cute little Funko dolls.  After picking up a Castiel one a while back I started grabbing as many different Supernatural ones as I could.  I, like others, often wondered why there wasn't a Bobby Singer Funko since he has been such a pivotal character in the show so I was pretty happy when a few weeks ago Funko announced that they would be finally releasing a Bobby figure.
